Pattern Console is a free browser tool that builds test patterns for LED walls, projection and broadcast at whatever resolution your canvas actually is — then exports them as PNG, SVG or a Resolume Arena layout. Nothing to install.
Why a test pattern before content
Content hides problems. A gradient looks fine on a wall with two dead panels and a seam that is one pixel off. A test pattern is designed to make those failures obvious while you still have time and a lift on site.
The pattern also tests the whole chain, not just the wall: media server output, scaler, processor mapping and the panels themselves. If the crosshair is not centered, the problem is upstream of the LED — and that is worth knowing before the room fills up.
Patterns in the console
SMPTE Bars
The broadcast standard for color and levels. Use it to confirm the signal chain is not shifting color or crushing blacks.
Crosshair
Center, axes and geometry at a glance. The fastest way to catch a mapping offset or a canvas that is not the size you think.
Stage Wireframe
Grid and structure for stage surfaces — exposes panel seams, tile boundaries and alignment across a build.
DSP Generator
Signal patterns for checking processing and scaling behavior across the pipeline.

A stylized pattern that still reads as a technical reference — usable as a holding screen that does not look like a holding screen.

Every pattern takes a custom canvas size, more than twenty color presets, and optional safe-area, center and corner mark guides. Compositions can be saved and assembled into larger super-compositions when one surface is made of several.
How to use it
- Set the canvas to the real pixel count of the surface — the total the processor is fed, not a broadcast preset.
- Pick the pattern for what you are checking: grid and crosshair for geometry, flat color for dead pixels, SMPTE for color.
- Turn on the guides you need — safe area, center mark, corner marks.
- Export as PNG for playback, SVG if it has to stay sharp at any size, or an Arena layout to drop straight into the media server.
Export and round-trip
Patterns export as PNG and SVG. Layouts export as Resolume Arena files, and Arena XML can be imported back into the console — so a layout built in the field can go back into the tool, get adjusted and return to the server without being rebuilt from scratch.

What is an LED test pattern used for?
A test pattern proves the wall is actually doing what the processor thinks it is doing. A grid exposes panel seams and mapping errors, a crosshair confirms center and geometry, flat color fields reveal dead pixels and panels that do not match, and SMPTE bars check color and levels through the whole signal chain before content goes anywhere near the screen.
What resolution should the test pattern be?
Exactly the pixel count of the surface you are feeding — not a preset like 1920x1080 unless that is genuinely your canvas. A pattern generated at the wrong size gets scaled somewhere in the chain, and then you are testing the scaler instead of the wall. Pattern Console lets you set any canvas size, including the odd totals a real LED build produces.
Is this test pattern generator free?
Yes. It runs in the browser, there is nothing to install, and generating and exporting patterns costs nothing.
Can I export patterns to Resolume Arena?
Yes. Patterns export as PNG and SVG, and layouts export as Resolume Arena files. Arena XML can also be imported back in, so a layout can round-trip between the console and your media server.
